The IWT comes to Charm City!

I have SO been looking forward to this! My favorite Cher of The Only Girl came up with this brilliant idea at the beginning of the month and it’s been spreading like wildfire…why not post up virtual tours of our fabulous workspaces for everyone to see? I am exceedingly nosy, so this feature is just my style.

Today I am joining Cher and other fellow awesome bloggers, Amanda, Cathy, Foxy, Jessalyn, and Brandy for the International Workspace Tour! Please keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times.

Ok, stalkers, away we go…

Clearly the business name has been changed in order to protect the innocent, but here we have the unassuming exterior of the building where I am an eight-thirty-to-fiver, Monday thru Friday. I wish I could say that the spots outside were reserved for the likes of me, but they aren’t. They are for the fancypants visitors we sometimes get. I was parked right where I stood to take this photo.

For my job, I am a graphic designer. I am one of a two person team that makes up the marketing and advertising department. The other half of this team is my good friend S (who was also a bridesmaid in my recent wedding!) and we share a large space in the back of the building. S travels often for work, and while she’s a load of fun and I enjoy having her around, I also enjoy having my own office 4 out of 5 days a week.

This is where the magic happens! I straightened up a little because I knew you were coming over…

S’s side of the room looks similar, except she has these obnoxious wall shelves and her desk looks considerably less like a 5 year old sits there. I’m very lucky to have a nice bright office with big windows so I can keep the lights off (fluorescents bother my eyes when I’m making art). I even have a view. Not that it’s of anything interesting…

…but at least it’s not like an air shaft or a brick wall.

Now let’s take a closer look at my workspace!

One might think by looking at my desk that I am totes neat and organized, but really it’s all a ruse. I’m actually a borderline hoarder. For an entire year I saved every single page from a Cat Naps calendar that M gave me for Christmas in one of my desk drawers, as if I was going to make some crazy-ass sleepy cat wallpaper out of it or something.

We won’t go into my drawers. Even if they weren’t a wreck, there’s nothing of interest in there anyway. Unless you consider the large supply of lozenges that I purchased on a whim after having a sore throat for one day last year to be interesting.

Because my job is all about deadlines, I am always very up-to-date with my calendar. I don’t even know why I have an inbox because I never ever use it for anything other than a glorified trash can. In fact, yesterday I found an invoice when I cleaned out my inbox that someone other than me had innocently stuck in there back in January. Oops! (I just reminded myself to call S and tell her about that one.)

My bulletin board farking rocks. Mine is the biggest one in the whole company because pinning up pictures of my husband, friends, and cats helps me to be more creative.

Like any self-respecting adult, of course I have toys at my desk…

…and booze and a shot glass for when those deadlines get a little too hairy.

Why does that bottle of rum look like it wants to cut me? And that tequila has a worm in it. So gross.

I keep this fortune stuck to my monitor as a reminder that I am awesome.

S and I also have a large closet where we store all of our extra stuffs, like print materials, promotional items for events, banners and signs that we can reuse, clothing and bags with our logos on them and other various things.

It is here that we will find something that I can guarantee no one else will be able to show you on their virtual office tour…

Confused?

That, friends, is a giant hotdog costume.

It was used for an event maybe six months before I was hired back in 2008. Good thing too, because if I had worked here back then, they might have made me wear it.

Maybe if you’re REALLY nice to me, I might wear it for a vlog one day. Or not.

And finally, the tour wouldn’t be complete without a picture of me hard at work…

As you can see, it was a slow afternoon.

Thank you all for joining me for my office tour! I don’t know about you, but I had a blast. (Thanks for the great idea, Cher!)

Happy weekending everyone!

That was a huge slice of brilliance, Salt! I love how you have pasted your name across the awning of your workplace. I think we should all be so lucky. And I would absolutely expect Hello Kitty to make an appearance. Also, your bulletin board is a ROCK STAR and it’s so totally you. And I’m kind of a little jealous. ;)

Thanks for sharing. I’m torn between doing mine now (which is how I’ve been working for about 6 months) or waiting until I get to GA (which will be a WAY pared-down version). I’m loving the IWT though and totes want to play! Thanks for sharing.

PS what happened to your bangs? Does Angelina have a trademark on them?

What a great idea! It is so much fun to get to know bloggers this way. It also makes me feel really insecure about my little office space. I must put lights up.

I’m so jealous of your sweet mac. I have a craptastic Dell because I have to run microsoft crap. I feel like using Adobe anything on a Dell is heresy.

    • Comment by Salt:

I totally agree with you. When I first started working here, I was on a Dell with Adobe CS4 software on it. It felt like sacrilege. Luckily they decided they loved me enough to get me a sweet new Mac after I was here for awhile.
